While climbing the impressive Laojundong Daoist Temple [老君洞道观] situated in the Nanan district of Chongqing city, we encountered an incense burner of unnatural proportions.
This temple, founded by buddhists in the Tang dynasty, was converted to a Daoist temple during the Ming dynasty, and renamed "Temple of the Supreme Ultimate".
After a long and turbulent history, it was reopened to the public in 1988. At the top of the mountain, one can find a very recent concrete building in the shape of a Ba Gua (octogon).
